The children have settled back into the school routine brilliantly! We have already started our new STAR Learning entitled ‘Kernow Bys Vyken’ (Cornwall forever) by asking the children to think about why Cornwall is special to them and we (Mrs Brown and Mrs Beckett) have shared our own thoughts, and photos which are displayed on our classroom maps of Cornwall. We would like each child to bring in their own photo of somewhere in Cornwall that is special to them, to talk about and add to our display. STAR Exploration has given us the opportunity to continue our Cornwall learning through a range of activities including making flags, building castles including with sand, crabbing with number crabs and making papier mache pasties ready for our pasty shop!
We have learned two new sounds this week: j and v, including how to use them in reading and spelling, and four new tricky words! (me, he, we, be). In maths we have started to investigate number bonds to 5 (pairs of numbers that make 5, 4 and 3 with the main focus on 5) with lots of different counting equipment. So as you can see we are off to a great start in 2020!
On Thursday we are having a ‘Cornish Tea Treat’, when we will be making class banners and processing around the school before eating our Cornish tea (the packed lunches have been ordered). It would be lovely if the children could wear their ‘Sunday best’ clothes for the day!
