We have really enjoyed raising the awareness of mental health at TMS this week. Here is what we have been up to!
EYFS talked about ways in which we can keep our minds and bodies healthy, which is linked to our LifeWise learning.
In Year 1 today, we remembered how we learnt about Hello Yellow day when we were in EYFS. We remembered how good it is to listen to music, talk about our feelings and to spend time outdoors.
In Drawing Club this week, our focus book has been ‘String Gets a Knot’, which was written by Lisa Grenfell – the author who visited the school last week. We discussed who we could talk to if we have a worry.
This afternoon, we spoke about how we can use our class worry monsters, and some of us had a go at designing our own worry monster – this created a lot of excitement! This was followed by a calm drawing activity, where we doodled all of the things that make us happy.
This morning, year 2 were active doing dance and yoga, looking at the importance of exercise for our mental health. This afternoon we doodled things that make us happy and created our own comfort creatures.
During ‘hello yellow day’ the children in Year 3 and 4 gained an understanding of the charity ‘Young Minds’. To support this, the children discussed and explored themes of ‘anxiety, stress and mindfulness’ in their PSHE session. Learning how to navigate their own mental health and understand how sometimes stress has triggers and other times it does not. Children have practiced mindfulness by focusing on the moment, being actively thoughtful throughout the day and taking moments to breathe and meditate. They also were encouraged to open conversations with new people around school and talk about their lovely yellow clothes, or anything they wished!
In Year 5 and 6 today, the children enjoyed talking about the importance of your mental health and focussing on what makes us happy! We took fun registers, played football and enjoyed a PSHE Lifewise lesson!
