Where learning is fuelled by creativity

We’ve had a great musical start to the term with class music lessons continuing for all years led by Mrs Browning.
We’re focusing on music from Cornwall this term, and we’ve started exploring tales of ‘our land and sea’.  Hopefully your children have come home singing ‘Going up Camborne Hill’ and we’re really enjoyed sharing tales and links to Richard Trevithick, steam engines, mining, and Cornwall – with lots of great singing too!  Please keep those tales and links to family history coming in.
We’ve also been singing sea shanties – with Fishermen’s Friends included in the mix.  Lots of ‘hauling’ to the beat – all the time weaving in the basic concepts of music into our classes – beat, rhythm (including looking at notation), dynamics and learning about different instruments.  This term we’re moving on to explore pitch – playing (on tuned instruments), singing and reading high and low notes.
In KS1 we’ve been diving into storytelling in music with tales of princesses, giants and castles.  Puff The Magic Dragon has made an appearance – more of this to come!

Our composer of the month is Mozart. Mozart was taught music by his father.  He began composing at the age of 5, wrote his first symphony at 8 and his first opera at  11.  You can see more and watch the film of an orchestra playing his Horn Concerto – that we’ve enjoyed in class – here.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3H1v7vC6mqlnq715SS7s52Q/horn-concerto-no-4-3rd-movement-by-mozart   We are looking forward to listening to more of his music throughout January.
Instrumental lessons continue this term and we’re delighted to be building our team of visiting teachers.  Emma started violin / viola lessons this week with all new string pupils coming to together at the end of the day to play and learn together.  There are still a few spaces left in her Tuesday timetable – if you’re interested in finding out more about learning a stringed instrument please leave a message for Mrs Browning at the office.
* Recorder club and ‘Sing It’ club continue this term – a reminder that both clubs are at 12.10 – 12.40 – at the start of lunch break.
A great start and we’re looking forward to a term of Cornish Music making!
