I don’t think we have given out as many golden stickers as we have done this week! The flow of children coming in to show off their learning, from EYFS to Year 6, has been constant – in every area of the curriculum. This shows the enormous pride the children feel about their learning and their achievements and how keen they are to share it and talk about it with others. Our STAR curriculum is something we are really proud of at TMS, giving our children rich and broad opportunities to inspire them to achieve great things. We have had Tim Webster, one of the county tennis coaches working with Y4, science investigations with a plant focus in Y3, incredible writing as a result of the ‘Great Fire of London’ stimulus in Y2, in Y6 children have been creating their own websites based around sustainable eating, in Y5 they have been exploring how to classify animals and year 1 have been learning about parts of the plant and EYFS have now completed learning all of their sounds!
We have also been exploring ‘keeping safe’ in assemblies. CLICK HERE. Our aim is to ensure that children feel safe, and they know what to do when they don’t feel safe. By using ‘Bubbles to Protect’ we can talk about bubbles which can be squashed – with permission – but it is not OK for bubbles to be broken. Giving our children the confidence to verbalise this is incredibly important, whilst they learn about how to keep each other feeling safe.
Rev’d Jeremy is on sabbatical at the moment, but we are continuing his community links with Sam coming into school every Wednesday. With a history of youth work behind him, he is coming in working with Year 5s at the moment, but starting to get to know our children and our school so we are able to make him as welcome as we can – once covid is over!
Development for staff is always a strong feature at TMS: we are looking carefully at the curriculum for September. We are working with Stuart Tiffany (MrT Does History) on our history curriculum and working with Claire Fortey, our Director of Education, on our curriculum statements, ensuring that our STAR curriculum is what we intend: Stimulating, Team Based, Aspirational & Relevant. This is a really exciting piece of work!
There has been a rise in bugs and colds this week. Please continue to remember to wash hands and have plenty of rest. We have 5 school days left before half term .. and you don’t want to miss the STUNTSHOW!
Have a wonderful weekend – it’s another blustery one ahead!!
Ms Teagle
WINNERS!
Well done everyone for such an awesome 2 weeks of ‘active school travel’ with the Big Pedal. It was great seeing how many of you adopted a healthy lifestyle over that time and how many supporters you had doing exercise at home with you! Make sure you keep this up as it is so important for, not only your health and wellbeing, but also the environment. From this effort, we have some really exciting news, out of all of the large schools in Cornwall we managed to come…. 1st!!!! Great work! Coming first also means, we will have a prize. And the prize is … A BIKE & PARKOUR STUNTSHOW!
This will be on our school grounds on Friday 28th May (weather depending) – we can’t wait!
2021-2022
Like many organisations and educational settings, the period of ‘Lockdown’ has brought many changes at Threemilestone School: some we are intending to keep. Staff and children find the staggered playtime and lunchtimes more enjoyable, and this gives the children more space to play outside with children of their own year group and a calmer dining experience in the hall. We are intending to keep this change to our timetable. We also really enjoy the staggered start and end of the day. It is a time for parents/carers and teachers to meet and for children to have a relaxed and positive start and end of the day. We are proposing that we keep the staggered approach, but reduce the time slot, as now, most children are picked up with 15 mins as it stands currently. Our proposal is that the school will open at 8.30, with learning starting at 8.45. In the afternoon, learning will end at 3.00 and between 3.00 and 3.15, children will be collected. Clubs will be running across year groups and will end at 4.00.
We will be consulting with staff and children in school, and please feel free to email in to secretary@threemilestone.cornwall.sch.uk to share your thoughts. We will confirm this in next week’s newsletter.
Half Term Free School Meal Vouchers
It was expected that due to the end of the Covid Winter Grant there would no longer be funding available to provide holiday food vouchers for all Free School Meals eligible pupils after the latest round at Easter. However, the government have now announced a further round of support via the Covid Local Support Grant, which means that funding has now been made available to schools to issue vouchers for the May half-term holiday. Therefore, we will be issuing vouchers to the value of £15 per eligible pupil in the same way as we did at Easter using the WONDE platform. These will be delivered via email.
Clubs after half term
Clubs will run from 7th June until 8th July – 5 weeks. They will have the same format as this half term -being led by both class teachers and having the theme of a general sports focus which changes every week.
Please can you confirm your child’s attendance by filling in the Google Form for this 5 week opportunity: https://forms.gle/ESJhJRFwMfv1U82n9

Allergy Advice
We would like to remind parents that we have students across several year groups who are allergic to different foods or food groups. Reactions range from mild to life threatening. Included in one of those allergies is NUT and the school follows a nut free policy whenever possible. Parents who send a packed lunch from home for their child are free to pack the foods of their choice but it is our hope that families CHOOSE not to send foods containing nuts.
