Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Newsletter 23.10.20

23rd October 2020 in Newsletters

It’s half term! And what a wonderful term it has been. I think everyone was full of trepidation when we returned in September, but it really has been a fantastic 7 weeks. The children, as always have been full of fun, smiles and an eagerness to learn, and the teachers have worked hard to create some really amazing learning experiences, despite our Covid restrictions. A big thank you from our staff team to all of our families for making this potentially challenging time, a time worth remembering, for all the right reasons.

I wish you all a very happy and safe half term, and already, I can’t wait to see everyone back at TMS on Wednesday 4th November!

Half term meals for children & Free School Meals

In light of the much published decision that the Government have voted to NOT to provide children who most need it the opportunity to have access to food vouchers over the half term, The Refill Store in Truro is responding to this by supporting our most vulnerable families. Please email to arrange a collection or call 07885465109 (please note these cannot be collected at Mr Fruity) There will be organised collections/deliveries from the Truro Store.  https://www.facebook.com/refillstoreLtd

Truro Food Bank  https://truro.foodbank.org.uk/  we also know are relentless in their support of our families. Please do not hesitate to contact them, or indeed, contact the school so that we can support you.

Many family situations are changing due to this ongoing pandemic. If you are needing support and unsure whether you are eligible to claim for Free School meals, click on this link to find out more. We currently have 20% of our children eligible for Free School meals – the current economic crisis is tough – please seek help if you need it.

 Additional INSET day – 3rd November 2020

In order for our school to ensure we are doing the best we can to support our children’s home learning in the event that they are having to remain at home due to Covid 19, our school will be closed on Tuesday 3rd November, for important staff training to be undertaken. This is an INSET day granted by TPAT and will be taken by all TPAT schools in October or November with this specific focus. Chacewater and Blackwater Schools have also opted for this date to ensure consistency in our locality. As I am sure you are aware, all of our staff are working tirelessly to support our children in what are quite challenging times, and it is vital that we provide this dedicated time to this significant part of our provision. Therefore, the first day back for children after half term will be the 4th November.

Relationship, Sex and Health Education

You will be aware that, as a part of your child’s educational experience at Threemilestone school, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives our children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future. From September 2020 the Department for Education has made Relationships, Sex Education and Health Education compulsory in all schools. This is a policy that requires a period of parental consultation before being put into place. Please take time to read the draft policy, and email into the school with anything questions you may want to ask for clarification to shape the policy.

Blackbird Pie goes online!

https://blackbirdreads.turtl.co/story/blackbirdpie-autumn-2020/

Due to the current Covid 19 pandemic Blackbird pie feel it is unwise to distribute paper magazines so they have gone ‘virtual’ and produced a Blackbird Pie magazine that you can view online.

A link to the new virtual Blackbird Pie magazine is above. You can view it on a computer, tablet or mobile phone.

The virtual magazine is filled with great things to do, videos, links and interactive stuff. There are lovely places to visit, wonderful walks and museums and galleries to visit (with safety measures in place).

Play Equipment – Not in use

Polite reminder that the adventure play equipment at the back of the school is not to be used after school. Please ask your children to refrain from using it. As soon as your children are picked up from their classroom, we are asking you to leave the school site as soon as possible. This is partly to fulfill our risk assessment for adults on site for COVID-19 – due to COVID restrictions the use of the equipment is restricted and the only ‘bubble’ which currently uses the equipment is the Pebbles after school club.

Masks to raise funds for Meningitis research foundation

Mrs Davies, who is an adult helper usually within Carn Brea Class, is selling homemade masks on behalf of her granddaughter who is due to climb Mount Kilimanjaro next year and is hoping to raise much needed funds for the Meningitis research foundation.

If you would like to purchase homemade reusable masks in either adult or child sizes, they are £3 each or 4 for £10 and can be purchased from Mrs Davies, who lives just opposite the school, at 3 Polstain Road ( the Pink bungalow).
