Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir – Richard Lander 4th Nov 6.30pm

31st October 2019 in Our Community

We would like to warmly invite all families of Richard Lander School’s Partner Primary Schools to attend an evening concert on Monday 4 November of the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir.

The Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir is visiting Cornwall on its bi-annual fundraising tour of the County.  The internationally acclaimed choir is made up of students from the various schools and homes run by the Molly and Paul Childcare Foundation and through its performances, raises money for a UK based Charity whose main activity is to support the 6 schools and homes run by the Foundation in Kampala and Masaka districts of Uganda.

The Foundation provides education, clothing and homes for around 2000 children who would not otherwise be able to attend school and is reliant on UK support to pay basic running costs and provide food, clean water and healthcare for thousands of children and their families.  Cornish schools have a long established connection with the Charity, with many schools having supported the Foundation over a number of years.

The choir is a musical and cultural extravaganza which delights audiences with a set of songs telling stories about Ugandan life featuring African instruments, voices and energetic dance. The choir encourages audience participation and, to support this, workshops in African song, dance and drumming will be run in the host schools, with Cornish students being invited on to the stage, alongside the choir to show off their new skills. Everyone is warmly invited to attend the concert at Richard Lander School on 4 November, entry is free but donations will be gratefully received at the door.
