Five members of TMS staff have attended a training session ran by The Cove Macmillian support centre. The Cove, based near the hospital, offers many services from a wig service, counselling to yoga and relaxation services. We have been working with this amazing community to ensure that if/when children who attend TMS have news of someone close to us receiving a cancer diagnosis, staff are fully equipped to support our children and their families. This session – our second one – was really informative and empowering, enabling us to be able to best support for our families and children.
The key message was that cancer is not always terminal, and learning to live with cancer, mange treatment and the emotional impact of this is an area which we are passionate in supporting.
As a school we have been busy putting together the boxes that every TPAT school will have. These boxes contain resources to help support children when a family member has received a long term health or cancer diagnosis. We have been able to make these boxes due to the generosity shown from parents/carers on our green day fund raising.
If anyone feels like they need any support or have any questions please contact the school or pop into The Cove.
Many thanks to Kerenza for highlighting this important local service.
