Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Assemblies – week beginning 14.9.20

16th September 2020 in Assembly

As part of the positive feedback from parents/carers from the period of ‘lock down’ we have decided that we would put on our website things we have talk about during assembly times so that you are able to continue the conversations at home. This is a really valuable time for us at school, learning about the world we live in, exploring different views and opinions, learning how to question and challenge and to think out our core values.

We started off with a quiz about some key things about the world we live in … strengthening some of our understanding about the civil rights movement and racial equality, as well as the refugee situation. We can’t think about these, unless we have a developing understanding of where countries are in the world, and the world leaders. See if you can remember any of these – it’s hard, so you may need a family discussion!

We couldn’t ignore the impact that Covid-19 is having on our lives. We have all adapted brilliantly to changes at school and the kindness shown to other children and staff has been overwhelming.  Changes will happen throughout life; something we have control over, and something we won’t.

It is fine to have a range of different feelings about changes: scared, worried, anxious but change can also be exciting.
This virus is horrible but it has made us have a look at ourselves and learn to do things differently: children have made new connections with different friends, there has been an increased awareness of community, and the interest in our environment, an area our children feel passionate about, has also been heightened. Your family as well may have gone through some tough times, but there may also be some great family times: card games learnt, cakes baked and quality film night enjoyed!
Find the positive in the change we face!
