Y6 Fun at Porthpean!

7th July 2021 in Year 6

What a SPECTACULAR couple of days at POEC!

Year 6 you really were sensational! We, as a whole team, couldn’t be prouder of the way in which you represented yourselves and our school at Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre. Two days of adventure, two days of “I’ve never done this before!” and two days of fantastic team work. We got to choose from four activities: coasteering, kayaking, canoeing or a ten man mega SUP. Each group was assigned an instructor, given a safety briefing and off they sailed into the unknown – with numerous water fights, dunkings and surprise attacks along the way!

Coasteering saw year 6 being dropped out into Porthpean Bay via a speed boat, before jumping off and swimming to the coast. The children then had to make their way back to the beach, whilst rock jumping, swimming through sea caves and saying hello to the local seals!

Kayaking saw the children on double kayaks and paddling out into the bay before meeting up a secluded beach and playing amongst the waves. Canoeing (which was best for a water ambush) saw two Canadian Canoes tied together to form a stable raft and lots of nature spotting, giggling and water fights. Finally, there was the mega SUP!

A ten man Stand Up Paddleboard, which meant working as a team (whilst trying to stay upright and dry-ish!) to paddle out into the bay; navigating seals, surf and huge rocks along the way!

We stopped for lunch on the beach and a much needed rest in the middle of the day, before carrying on with the adventure in the afternoon. Day 1 saw sunshine, rain and wind but none of it stopped the sheer determination, smiles and laughter. Day 2 was bathed in sunshine, seaweed and Miss Bryant being at the forefront of Mr Newsome’s water ambush!

Yet again, our year 6 superstars have set the standards bar higher. We truly hope you are as proud of yourselves as we are of you. From first time wet suit wearing, never swimming in the sea, having butterflies about jumping and paddling your hearts out – you NAILED it.

A massive well done and a very well deserved rest all round!

Casey loved every minute as I’m sure everyone else did.
