Our TMS team had a fantastic STAR day, focusing on the British musicians Elton John, Vanessa Mae, Shirley Bassey and Adele. Not only are these musician known for their obvious musical achievements, they have been exciting to learn about for using their platform to raise awareness of different issues, using lyrics to convey emotions, using theatre and costume to identity self expression  and how to manage the achievements at an early age, building character alongside their musical brilliance. Children have used figurative language to write lyrics based on what makes them feel happy, sad, nervous, angry or excited. They have discussed Elton’s role in spreading understand, kindness and equality throughout the world. They watched him being awarded the National Humanities medal by US president Joe Biden last Saturday for the work of his Elton John Aids Foundation which works to end the signs, discrimination and neglect that surrounds Aids victims. They then created their own Elton style glasses to celebrate their own individualism.
