This week Mrs Ewart and Mrs Thomas have led two assemblies teaching us about what bullying is, what bullying is not, why people might engage in bullying type behaviours , how to report suspected bullying and what we do in our school to help.
We have used the anti bullying alliances definition of what bullying is.
The repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. Bullying can be physical, verbal or psychological. It can happen face-to-face or online.
ANTI-BULLYING ALLIANCE
Definition of bullying
The children know that bullying must contain these elements for it to be bullying, hurtful, intentional, repetitive and an imbalance of power. We discussed how online bullying is far more prevalent than being bullied in person or in a school environment.
Although the acronym STOP (several times on purpose) has been helpful for children to start understanding bullying, there is still some misunderstanding on what actions could be perceived as bullying, and who it is by
Mrs Thomas has also run workshops in Year 5 and had some really interesting conversations on what bullying, and what it is not, showing curiosity and a desire with the children to get the understanding right.
As always, we continue to build confidence in children, so that they feel they are able to speak up, and ensure that children are being listened to.
We will continue the theme of antibullying in assemblies, as well as Mrs Thomas continuing to run workshops in the other year groups.
