Our Year 4 football team took part in their first tournament of the year and represented the school brilliantly throughout the day.
In the group stage, we were drawn against St Agnes, St Erme and Bosvigo. Our first match was against St Agnes and proved to be a tough contest. After going 1–0 down, the team showed great determination and resilience. Stan battled his way through the defence to score an excellent equaliser, earning us a well-deserved 1–1 draw.
Next, we faced St Erme and started the game full of confidence. Mason opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a handball in the box. Soon after, a fantastic cross from Mason across the goal allowed Stan to score a simple tap-in. Stan then added a third goal with a brilliant run through the defence, securing a convincing 3–0 victory.
Our final group game was against a strong Bosvigo side. We started positively, but once Bosvigo found their breakthrough goal, they continued to apply pressure and added further goals. The match finished 3–0 to Bosvigo.
Overall, the team finished the group stage with one win, one draw and one loss. Unfortunately, only the top team from each pool progressed to the next round, so we did not qualify. However, this was a fantastic first tournament for our Year 4 team, and there were many positives to take away from the day.
All of the boys worked incredibly hard, showed great teamwork and supported one another throughout the tournament. We are very proud of their effort, attitude and sportsmanship.
Well done, everyone!
Miss Andrew
