Tom Palmer: Author of Adventure, Heroes & Goals ⚽️

Imagine falling in love with stories not in books… but in football articles! That’s what happened to Tom Palmer, born in Leeds around 1966. As a kid, he wasn’t keen on reading until he discovered that thrilling world of football news—then suddenly, he couldn’t get enough! His adoptive mum supported that spark—encouraging him to read and believe in stories.

After university, Tom worked in libraries and bookshops (even winning “Bookseller of the Year” in 1997!), which meant he was surrounded by stories every day. In 2002, he published his first children’s book, and the adventure only got bigger from there. He’s since written more than 50 books—bursting with action, sports, history and mystery—from the Football Academy series, where kids train like pros, to thrilling stories set during World War II.

What makes Tom special? He blends real-life excitement—like playing for Leeds United!—with powerful stories about teamwork, courage, and big emotions. His books are often packed with football matches, spy secrets, and even wartime missions. He writes for readers who’d rather play than read—turning them into excited book-lovers!

In 2026, as part of the Year of Reading, Tom became an ambassador for Cornwall Libraries—helping kids everywhere “Go All In” with reading and discover how stories can change lives. He shows us that stories can be exciting, heart-warming—and filled with real heroes just like you.
