Where learning is fuelled by creativity

PALs -Pupils As Leaders – Autumn 2021

22nd October 2021 in TMS Parliament

A massive congratulations to these children who have been voted in as PALs (Pupils As Leaders) this term. They have made a fantastic start as a team, sharing ideas in our meetings and showing leadership in their classes.  To get voted in, these children planned a speech and demonstrated that as a leader, they would be suitable for the role of a PAL. In assemblies we have talked about leaders needing to be confident, organised, to be able to communicate effectively, to be able to listen to the ideas of others and to understand how other people are feeling, to be brave, to be creative, and to be passionate about your role.

The PALs across the school have come together and shared ideas how they would demonstrate good leadership and contribute towards a positive community at TMS. They had brilliant ideas!

As PALs, we have a group plan. These are opportunities for us to show leadership across the school.

  • Be responsible for music in assembly – whichever class get in first, the PALs of that class will be in charge of the music at the beginning and the end
  • Look after our green environment (Make sure plants are watered in the corridor and in the courtyard, Weeding and maintain the planters outside with the support of staff, Liaise with staff and ensure that all classrooms are using the propagators to grow plants
  • Help at dinner time for the year groups before they go in ( go into the hall 5 minutes before their year group go in) – clearing plates, sweeping, supporting with hand sanitising
  • Support after school clubs for younger children
  • Keep corridors and cloakrooms tidy
  • Change books in the Reading Rec with the support staff and keep it tidy!
  • supporting the PTFA with the Bake off sale!

We have a big project which we would like our PALs to be involved in. As a part of respecting and looking after our physical environment as school, we have discussed making our toilet areas a more pleasant place to be, by creating murals. We will be designing initially the Years 3 and 6 murals, taking ideas from the classes and liaising with Mrs Preston to create murals!  It may take some time, but our PALS will be involved!

Coming up, the PALs will be involved in:

  • Helping organise Children in Need morning – making posters, advertising, collecting money, organising something to say in assembly etc
  • Helping with Christmas Music afternoon for the elderly in December

We have many other ideas, some of which we can make happen, and some may be passed on to the next PALs in January.

We have a fantastic team with lots of energy and enthusiasm – thank you PALs for such an amazing start to our year!
