Where learning is fuelled by creativity

09.07.21 Newsletter

9th July 2021 in Newsletters

It was fantastic to welcome back all the children and staff who had been isolating this week and thank you to all teachers who very quickly put remote learning into place. If you are still poorly or isolating, we are missing you and hopefully see you soon.

We have had a brilliant day celebrating anything sporty! From learning about Tokyo and Japan and the history of the Olympics, to celebrating key athletes such as Jesse Owens and Tommie Smith. Have a look on the website to see what else we have got up to!

It still feels rather unsettled and confusing in the world at the moment, with restrictions being lifted while cases are rising. We have outlined below what is in place at school for the next 2 weeks, with the safety and health of our children, staff and families at the centre of all decisions.

I wish you all a very happy and safe weekend and fingers crossed … we’ll be celebrating on Monday!

Ms Teagle

FOOTBALL’S COMING HOME! (hopefully!)

As I’m sure you are all aware, whether you are a football fan or not, there is a rather important football match on Sunday Evening! It’s 55 years since England reached a major football final and we know how many children are keen to watch the match on Sunday evening, leaving children rather tired on Monday!

On Monday morning, school will be open at usual time, but if you feel your child needs a lie in, then please let them! We would much rather have children coming in a little later, than tired and slightly grumpy! If you could get to school by 10:30, that would be fantastic! Children will not be marked as late.

END OF TERM PLANS

Despite the covd restrictions which are being lifted on 19th July, we are following the schools guidance which is to remain in ‘bubbles’ until the end of the term. We will continue to send home the bubble if there is a positive case. ‘Bubbles’ will remain in year groups, not phases until the end of term.

With children only now coming back after isolation, 9 positive cases in the school with children and staff, and additional cases of parents and siblings in our wider community, we have considered carefully and at length all our arrangements until the end of term, in the context of Threemilestone School. We have taken into consideration how poorly children and parents have been, as well as loss of income families have had to go through whilst children are isolating and events, gatherings and holidays all having to be cancelled.

We will continue to have our sports day, and ensure there are many photos put on the website for families to see the event. We feel this is the responsible thing to do as the impact of having so many people on our school site with 120 children could be potentially devastating for so many families if there were a positive case identified. EYFS and KS1 sports afternoon will be Thursday 15th July, Years 3&4 in the morning and Years 5&6 in the afternoon of Friday 16th July. We will be giving out certificates the week afterwards in assembly.

Because of the changes of sports events, we are able to have a proper transition day on Monday 19th July, where the children will be able to move with their bubble into their new classes. The members of staff will all do a Lateral Flow Test on the Sunday evening and again on the Monday evening. We feel this is an important day for our children to ease any potential worry about September and to get to know their new teacher and support staff. There will be a short film on the website as well, so children are able to remind themselves over the break. At the end of the day, children will be dismissed from the NEW CLASSROOM, so this is an opportunity for you to meet their new teacher.

On this day Y6 will be having a day with Miss Andrew and Mrs Brown – mostly sport based! They will be dismissed from reception.

Swimming 2021-2022

We have been working with GLL (Truro Leisure Centre) to organise swimming sessions for the next academic year. They have completely changed their organisation of school swimming sessions and can only offer a block of 10 consecutive days, for 1 hour, with no more than 35 children in the pool. The learner pool is not in use.

Because they have decided this, we can only offer swimming for years 4, 5 and 6.

St.Ives class (Y5 – Mr Newsome) weeks beginning 27th Sept and 4th October – every day

Barcelona class (Y5 – Mr Bagley) weeks beginning 11th and 18th October – every day

Rinsey class (Y4 – Mr Rutterford) weeks beginning 1st and 8th November – every day

Veryan class (Y4 – Mrs Vale) weeks beginning 15th and 22nd November – every day

Year 6 weeks beginning 13th and 20th June  – every day

COVID 19 – Symptoms and testing

If your child has any one of the main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), get a PCR test as soon as possible.

The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

A high temperature

A new, continuous cough

A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

If you or your child has COVID symptoms, or are generally feeling unwell, since the symptoms of the new Delta variant seem to be more wide ranging than those of the original variant, please seek a PCR test.  Your entire household must self-isolate whilst you are waiting for the results of the PCR test.

Self-isolation means that you must not leave your house for any other reason than to get a PCR test.

Please follow the Government current guidelines on the current restrictions, but we have been advised by PHSW to encourage families to again limit contacts outside of your family and when meeting with others maintain the hands, face, space, outdoors guidance.

Contact school immediately in the event of a positive test result.

PTFA@TMS

We were pleased to welcome a few more members to our PTFA meeting this week. We are really determined to put together a plan for the next academic year, to raise the profile of the brilliant support mechanism for the school. The PTFA not only exists as a fundraising vehicle, but also to ensure that the school community is vibrant, active and to create different channels of opportunities for community involvement.

More members in the PTFA will provide more ideas and more opportunities to involve the strengths and connections of our TMS families. To create more members and a stronger, more effective team, from September we would like at least one parent/carer to come to the meetings as a representative of each class. We know that there are many ‘groups’  for parents/carers to communicate and so we would hope via this vehicle, you are able to decide who would come to the meeting. If you are not part of any social media group, just give us a ring in the office, so that we can connect you so no-one is feeling excluded. Please don’t argue if there are more than one volunteer … we are more than happy to have more than one representative!!!

The first meeting will be at ‘The Victoria Inn’ on Thursday 23rd September. This will be a general getting to know each other and time for a chat.

The second meeting will also be ‘The Victoria Inn’ on Thursday 30th September. This will be the AGM so that we can officially put in place a chair, vice chair and secretary. We are then hoping that you can then bring ideas together so that we can start mapping out events over the year.

We really hope that after the disjointed couple of years we have had, we can embrace the new challenge of a really strong PTFA to support the school and community when we return in September.

Vonnie Davies – Vice-Chair

ANNUAL REPORTS TO PARENTS

On 16th July, our annual reports to parents will be brought home with the children. They will be sent home to the main carer. If you require another copy for a parent who does not live with the children, please can you contact the school office and we can ensure that a copy will be sent home via the post or through collection at the school office. If you require it through the post, please put on your email your current address where it will be sent.

If your child goes home with someone who isn’t their main carer on the 16th July, please can you be aware of this and ensure that we have given enough copies to the right parent, so that everyone who should have the report, has it.

Wrap-around provision – SHELLS, PEBBLES and BIBBLES

From September, EYFS, Year 1 & 2 will attend Bibbles (held at Preschool) for after school provision.  Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 pupils will attend Pebbles. Please contact the school office as soon as possible, if you would like to book your child into any wrap around care sessions or amend your requirements for the next academic year.
