Online safety blog #2 – NETFLIX

29th September 2020 in Online safety

Netflix is the nation’s favourite online streaming subscription service, with over 13 million households subscribing in the first quarter of 2020, and no doubt those numbers have gone up during lockdown!

There is a wealth of content from family friendly shows to, well… not so family friendly content – much of which contains scenes of violence, drug misuse and sexual content.

How do I stop my children from accessing inappropriate content?

Parents and carers can set up filters online via the website which cannot be adjusted via the app and profile locks can be added to put passwords on adult users’ accounts.

You may want to discuss these points with your children:

The meaning of “age-appropriate” when children access Netflix. Why are certain movies or shows OK for one family member but not another?
Rules and expectations. What are movie ratings? Which ratings are OK for each family member? If profile locks are not set, what are the rules about using different profiles?
