What an amazing week! It has really felt Christmassy and joyous in school and such a delight to be part of this amazing TMS team who in the midst of the worrying world once again on the outside, continue their positivity, kindness in and around school. You will see from the posts on the website all the excitement in school this week: the PTFA carolling in Truro, Christmas dinner and Parties, artwork – the list goes on! Even in this rather uncertain week, our attendance has been over 90 % on most days – incredible! 

We also say goodbye today to Mrs Weston, who has supported the school brilliantly in her role in the office – we couldn’t have got through covid so successfully and calmly without her! Mrs Weston is really excited about her new role in Blackwater School, so we are lucky that she remains in the Trust and we still get to see her! We warmly welcome Mrs Shaw to our office team.

Thank you on behalf of all our staff for all your support and kindness this term. It has been yet again, a term with new challenges, but it is your children and sense of community which makes TMS such an exciting place to be!

TMS SPORT and WELLBEING HALL

Lots of you will be aware of the conversations happening between the school and the council over the last 4 years. Our current school hall, as you know, is not fit for purpose: delivering the full PE curriculum is an impossibility and meeting as a whole school, which is so incredibly important to a school is a logistical nightmare! The hall was built for a school of less than 200 children and with the school expanded to now 420, the buildings have extended, but the hall, situated in the middle of the building has remained the same (in fact … decreased in size!).

The council has allocated £888,000 towards the building of a new sports hall, which is incredibly exciting and shows how much commitment there is from the community of TMS and also the councils and county officers. We have worked with PBWC on a design which encapsulates more than just a sports hall. It includes a wellbeing workspace, as well as building an outdoor learning area to support our curriculum, as well as extra curricular activities. 

We also intend use by the community in the evenings, both the hall and the workspace, for sports hiring, or local groups meetings to strengthen links in the community.

The planning has now been submitted and through consultation with parents and the local community we know how much support there is for this provision to support the children in the village.  We invite you to share you support on the planning portal:

• After hearing of the recent theft at school involving our school goalposts being stolen from our school site, the Coop has offered to provide new goalposts so our children are not disadvantaged. Thank you Dan – your kindness is really appreciated and it means a lot that a local shop supports the school and our children in this way.
• We always appreciate our gifts of Christmas books from Emmanuel Full Gospel Church to our EYFS and Years 1 and 2 children. We value your kindness and I know that your gifts will be really appreciated by all.

There will be a slight change of menu on the first day back, Tuesday 4th January 2022. The red option is vegetable pizza, not chicken as stated on parentpay.

Christmas Free School Meal Vouchers

We are pleased that the government has provided a further round of support via the Covid Local Support Grant, which means that funding has now been made available to schools to issue vouchers over the Christmas holiday. We have now issued the vouchers to the value of £30 per eligible pupil, in the same way as we have previously, using the WONDE platform.
