18.06.21 Newsletter

18th June 2021 in Newsletters

It has been a really hard week at school for some staff and children at Threemilestone School.  For many close to Mrs Pascoe, it has been the reality of what TMS feels like without her energy and commitment to our children. On Wednesday, we celebrated her life with our ‘Wales day’, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There was nothing she liked more than hearing children laugh and have fun, and combining this with her beloved home nation of Wales, we celebrated in style! The Y5&6 staff had a competitive game of football against the children (winning, of course!) and to add to the magic of the day, Wales then went on to win the football v Turkey in the evening. Mrs Pascoe was a very special lady; we hope we would have done her proud on this special day.

Last week, Mrs Weston and myself undertook an external Health and Safety audit. We are really pleased to let all our families know that the gentleman from Amicus Compliance had never seen a school with such high levels of compliance and safety at the forefront of its school culture. My thanks goes to Mrs Weston and Ms Jenkin-White at Mitie, for ensuring that time and focus is spent on all the small details, which matters – thank you.

The government announcement on Monday was a disappointing one for all. With cases of a significant increase in Cornwall, we are taking this very seriously. Staff are continuing LFD testing twice a week, and all plans for relaxation as the term comes to an end, have had to change. The changes are outlined in the newsletter below.

Please continue to stay safe. Covid-19 is very real in Cornwall with bubbles closing in many local schools, affecting the education and livelihoods of many families. We all need to do our part.

Ms Teagle

PTFA@TMS

The dreaded Covid has taken its toll on our PTFA and over the last 18months, we have been unable to hold fundraising opportunities or opportunities to support our children in school. Our PTFA is absolutely crucial in ensuring that our children at TMS are given experiences which enhance their school life, whether that be in visits, outdoor learning, the school environment or a specific project. Historically, the school has relied on the PTFA to raise funds to make these opportunities achievable for all.

We are now looking to revamp our PTFA, looking to life post covid.

We are hoping that a new group of parents and carers will join us in our next meeting at 2pm on Monday 28th June. The Zoom invite will be on the website dates and will be emailed out closer to the time.

We are not looking for lifelong commitment! But, simply a group of people who can work together and then motivate others for support, in order to give our children the opportunity they deserve.

One of the difficulties of being a large school is that many families feel that someone else will always do it. Well, if everyone thinks that, we will not have a PTFA! Therefore a group of families supporting the school, not just organising events to raise money, but supporting the community, really is needed.

Just pop along & bribe a friend to come with you. You don’t even need to enter the building! Unfortunately, we can’t even offer biscuits this time 🙁

Hope to see as many people as possible.

Ms Teagle

Parent Governor

As well as our intention to build the PTFA, we also have 2 spaces on our governing body. Our TMS governing body has always been strong and heavily involved in school improvement. Governance in our last OfSTED report was also commented on as being effective and rigorous. It is the ideal time to join, to learn from some more experienced governors, some of whom have been in post for more than 3 terms.

If you are interested in being part of our team, please do not hesitate to contact Sarah Douce our chair of Governors, sdouce@threemilestone.cornwall.sch.uk or Ms Teagle if you would like further information. The process is detailed in the attachment found in the email alongside this newsletter, as well as on the website.

Euro 2020 Match Reports

This week, children at TMS have been tuning into some of the Euro 2020 games in and out of school and some have been taking the opportunity to become football pundits and write up match reviews about the games they have watched. We have loved reading them so far, but would love for more of you to get involved. Small prizes continue every week for the most exciting!

Many thanks – Mr Rutterford and Mr Wake (Wellbeing team)

COVID-19 restrictions information in summer term @TMS

I’m sure our staff weren’t the only ones to be disappointed by the continuation of restrictions over the next 4 weeks. We were really looking forward to having an end of term which would be more ‘normal’! However, it is  what it is, and we are now outlining our new plans. For information, ‘phases’ are Y5&6, Y3&4, Y1&2 and EYFS are separate.

Transition Day – 30th June

This will still go ahead as planned. The Year 6 children going to RLS will still be able to go up and remain within their bubble of 60. They will need a packed lunch as they will not be able to use the canteen. All other children will be able to go to their new classes with new teachers and TAs. We have a careful tracking system in place and staff will be LFD testing on Tuesday night instead of Wednesday this week, just to make sure.

Any other transition work between classes to support children will be going ahead, but this will involve wearing of masks in the new classroom and a tracking system within school. This is especially important for children with additional needs.

Y6 Porthpean trip – 5th and 6th July

This is able to go ahead due to TMS being the only school on site

OLYMPIC DAY – 9th July

This is able to go ahead, and children will be working in their phase bubble. This is a dress up celebration of the Olympics! Come dressed as a country, flag or in general sporting attire!

Rock Concerts with Mr Thomas

This will happen in phases. Unfortunately no parents/carers will be able to attend.

Stay and Play for new Early Years Children – 13th and 14th July

A separate email will be going out to new families.

SPORTS AFTERNOONS

Sports Afternoons will be going ahead for the children to celebrate their sporting achievements, but unfortunately parents/carers will not be able to watch. Photos will be taken and put on the website of each sports afternoon.

Leavers’ performance -15th July

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel this.

Leavers’ final assembly and sleep over

We are very excited about this!! As it is the year 6 bubble, this is able to go ahead. Parents /carers are able to come to the final assembly as it is outside. We are requesting that parents bring their own rugs to sit on (or sit on school chairs) and ensure there is social distancing between them and other family bubbles.

Although a couple of these events are taking place after restrictions have hopefully eased, we do understand how frustrating it is where some will not. We feel that this cautious approach needs to be taken in order to keep our communities as safe as possible. We know many of you will have already booked time off work, which in itself is often challenging and we can only apologise.

We were so excited about the prospect to share in events once again, but each day we hear of more positive cases in schools and as such feel it would be inadvisable to have large spectator groups on the school premises. All other measures will remain in place until the end of term. We will keep you informed should any changes occur.

ANNUAL REPORTS TO PARENTS

On 16th July, our annual reports to parents will be brought home with the children. They will be sent home to the main carer. If you require another copy for a parent who does not live with the children, please can you contact the school office and we can ensure that a copy will be sent home via the post or through collection at the school office. If you require it through the post, please put on your email your current address where it will be sent.

If your child goes home with someone who isn’t their main carer on the 16th July, please can you be aware of this and ensure that we have given enough copies to the right parent, so that everyone who should have the report, has it.

HOLIDAY HUNGER – ACTION BY 12TH JULY

Truro Foodbank has emailed all schools to ask about capacity for support over the summer holidays. The food packages they are planning to put together are obviously bigger, as the summer holidays are a longer period of time. They have asked us to put forward any names to them by 12th JULY. These are packages to provide lunches for the children over the break.

If the whole family needs support over this summer break, please let the school know and we can do a separate referral, which means that the package will be slightly different, as they would be supporting the whole family.

The packages will be then delivered to school by 19th July for families to collect.

Wrap-around provision – SHELLS, PEBBLES and BIBBLES

From September, EYFS, Year 1 & 2 will attend Bibbles (held at Preschool) for after school provision.  Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 pupils will attend Pebbles. Breakfast provision (Shells) will be for all year groups. All current bookings will be carried over to September. Please contact the school office as soon as possible, if you would like to book your child into any wrap around care sessions or amend your requirements for the next academic year.

Current prices: Shells £4.50 a session and Bibbles/Pebbles £8.50 a session.

Access on to School Grounds

We have received several reports recently regarding both parents and children climbing over the hedge walls via the Parish Council Park, to access the school fields. Access to the school is restricted both before and after school and we would really appreciate families refraining from doing this.
