Where learning is fuelled by creativity

6th March – INTERNET SAFETY WORKSHOP 6 – 7.30pm

25th February 2019 in Anti bullying, Online safety, Whole School

In school, we are being made aware of, on a daily basis, of things going wrong online with our children here at TMS. The concerns that have been brought to us are really concerning:

* children as young as 6 on Call of Duty (18)

* online bullying from other in the school

* being messaged by strangers

* bank details being used without parental permission

* our children witnessing extreme and graphic violence, pornography and constant obscene language.

These are incidents of what we have heard about OUR children at Threemilestone. There have also been recent reports of grooming of children in schools in Bodmin on Fortnite.

As staff and governors, we are really upset, angry and saddened by this. We realise we cannot protect our children from everything, but we do want to support our families in ensuring we can access information so that we can work as a team to keep your children safe.

On Wednesday 6th March, we have invited Steve Shepherd from South West Grid for Learning to lead a 90 min workshop, between 6-730. He has been widely recommended and we are really excited about him visiting us.

While this is going on, some staff have kindly volunteered to provide IT activities for your children, so that you can attend. More about this closer to the time. The workshop contains adult material, so it is not possible for any child under 18 to attend.  He has made this really clear.

and finally, a quote from Steve:

I love delivering these sessions and I believe that empowering parents assists schools in to not only keep children safer online but also helping them to use the internet to enrich their lives.

I really do hope that as many of you as possible can attend. I know that Blackwater School are also putting on a session, if anyone is unable to attend ours.

Please sign up in the office is you are able to attend, and also if you would like your children to be entertained for the 90mins!

Ms Teagle, Mr Bagley and al our TMS staff.
