At TMS, we always hold Remembrance Day as a special day and we always ensure that our children throughout their time with us, start to understand the horror of war, as well as the camaraderie, friendship and loyalty of the forces. Still being able to remember our whole school visit to Truro in 2018, some of our older children spoke of the war memorial and feeing of the nation at the centenary year.
We also spoke about the monarchy and how that has changed over the last 100 years, developing a sense of chronology.
Reading ‘One Boy’s War’ gave an insight of the desire that young men felt to join the war, and both the worry and pride which was felt back at home.
The other focus of the week was the COP26 event. IN KS2 assembly, we outlined what COP is we then talked about the 1.5 degree pledge that was made at the 2015 COP. The children then looked at a film that highlighted what might happen if we let the temp rise by 2 degrees.
For EYFS and KS1, we discussed litter – what it is and the impact it can have on wildlife.
