‘Bubbles to Protect’
This week in Years 1-6 assemblies, we have been discussing further how to keep ourselves safe. With our invisible bubbles around us, we should feel safe – and when we are safe, we are happy, able to get along with friends, and able to learn. We all have different size bubbles! We need to remember that people have different bubble sizes, when we are talking to each other, or playing.
With permission (consent) our bubbles can be squashed! This may include asking for a cuddle, playing sport, playing ‘it’ holding hands or going to the doctors. By playing sport, or games which include touch, by agreeing to play, you have given permission to touch – within the rules of the game. These are all OK. We can continue to feel safe.
If we take away the permission, our bubbles can then be burst. This is not OK and it is important for children (and adults) to be able to very clearly say when this is happening and they are not feeing safe. This may happen when there is hitting or grabbing, or cuddles which make us feel uncomfortable. It is really important to tell someone this.
We also have smaller and stronger bubbles, around our private areas. There should not be any reason for these bubbles to be even squashed.
In Tuesday’s assembly with Mr Lara, the children listened carefully to the story of The Magic Paintbrush. Following this, they discussed what they could use as a ‘magic paintbrush’ to spread kindness and thoughtfulness across their school and the wider community. It was lovely to hear so many carefully considered, mature ways to make our world a better place.
