With so much happening in the world around us, we had a lot to think about this week in assembly.
EYFS and KS1 assemblies
We continued the theme of being kind. It is so important to realise that every one of us has the power to be kind – whether that is using our words or our actions. Our kindness impacts massively on people around us – especially in the world we are currently in. It was great to hear our children spreading kindness in their homes, whether it is tidying up, entertaining siblings or just a cuddle – a cuddle goes a long way!

The G7 summit coming to Carbis Bay in June has caused great excitement this week. The thought of the 7 of the most influential world leaders coming to Cornwall, as well as their security and the world media is massive. We looked at where UK, German, Italy, France, Canada, Japan and America were on the map and noticed they were all in the Northern Hemisphere and discussed the responsibility the group hold to act with integrity in their discussions of Global Issues.
Things to do at home:
- Find these countries on a map and increase your geography skills by identifying continents; check out the equator as well as the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn.
- Find out more about the World Leaders – the Prime Ministers, Presidents and Chancellor who have been voted in to lead these countries.
- Find out about why Russia became part of the ‘Group’ making it the G8 … and then was asked to leave.
We could not go through the week without mentioning the Inauguration of the New President: President Biden. What a ceremony it was, with Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and the wonderful poet Amanda Gorman. We talked about the democratic process and how important it was to maintain integrity throughout this system, and how to remain dignified when the results don’t go your way.
It was a truly wonderful moment, recognising the historic significance of the occasion, whether you agreed with the outcome of the election of not. It is a truer representation of the citizens of America than ever before.
- Vice President Kamala Harris – the first woman, as well as the first African, Asian American to hold this position.
- Dr Jill Biden – the First Lady of the United States – an educator, who is still planning to teach
- Doug Emhoff – the “First Second Gentleman” in American History; a lawyer who is taking on a role of teaching Law, and is from the Jewish community.
