Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Assemblies – week beginning 20.9.21

24th September 2021 in Assemblies

In Monday assemblies Mrs Ewart and Miss Bowen spoke about the recent disaster: Hurricane Ida had left parts of North America absolutely devastated. We know how passionately our children feel about the climate crisis and yet again, this is an example of how if we work together, these natural disasters will lessen.

On Wednesday we ‘explored’ leadership and what qualities a leader has, naturally, or can be developed. Last year we talked about Gareth Southgate, but this week, we talked about the incredible adventure of Ernest Shackleton. What an incredible leadership skills he demonstrated in a situation we can barely imagine. Find out more about Shackleton and come and show your class teacher or Ms Teagle.

We decided on some words we felt both described our PALs and Shackleton: brave, confident, self aware, understanding the feelings of others, honest, trustworthy, leading by example, a good communicator, put others first.

During our KS2 Thursday assembly this week, Miss Bowen and Mrs Brown shared the picture book You by Kate Jane Neal. This fantastic book explores the idea of everybody being different, incredible, ingenious and intricate – but equally as special and important. We unpicked a number of different Cultures of the Heart (or qualities) we can show, or do show, and why these are important in everyday life. We ended by discussing the word goodEach and everyone one of us is good and we have the capacity to be anything and anyone we want, with a whole number of special and important qualities.
We will be revisiting this book lots in the coming year – very exciting!
