The opening assembly of term is always exciting – and even more so in January. Janus – in Roman mythology – was the god of new beginnings – looking back and looking forward – and usually depicted with 2 faces. Although making New Year’s resolutions is a popular process to go through, we talked about setting ourselves realistic targets and setting ourselves small, achievable goals, so we don’t get disheartened and there is more chance of success! We can achieve anything we want to – but we need to be realistic, work out how much we want it, plan ahead and be prepared to put in the hard work!
In Wednesday’s assembly we introduced our new STAR teams … more about that in the STAR teams news post!
Mrs Ewart noticed it would have been Stephen Hawking’s birthday on the 8th January and so perfect day to celebrate his achievements. We talked about not giving up and ‘doing what you can’t’. We explored Stephen’s life and his theories around the beginnings of our universe, and how without his determination this would not have been discovered.
In EYFS and KS1 assembly, Mrs Beckett chose the act of KINDNESS to talk about – which is the next culture of ‘Culture of the Heart’, and  discussed ‘Random Acts of Kindness’. Then we discuss each bullet point of ‘What is kindness?’ and the children considered whether it was their strength.
