Assemblies – week beginning 4.5.21 – Antibullying

11th May 2021 in Anti bullying, Assembly
KS2 assemblies this week focussed on the importance of being kind and supportive friends and classmates. All children in KS2 watched a clip named “For the Birds” which demonstrates how unkind actions can make others feel. We all discussed how we can choose to be either the big blue bird or the smaller birds, and that we must reflect on the choices we make and how they make others feel. We were all reminded that:
  • there are adults in school and at home who can support us when we are finding friendships tricky
  • all classes have either worry monsters or boxes where we can put out worries if we find them tricky to say out loud
  • we should all make sure we are supportive and caring members of our school community

We talked about the different birds and who was responsible for bullying the big bird.  The children first pointed fingers at the two birds who were hurting him but talk soon went on to those birds who were laughing and encouraging the two main culprits.  We talked about the birds who, although they weren’t laughing and joining in, didn’t do anything to stop the behaviour which they could see. If we act like this, this isn’t OK. We need to stand up for thing which are right.

We talked about which kind of ‘bird’ we wanted to be like in the video and how sometimes our actions (and inactions) can have an impact on other people.
