Welcome back to TMS!

This week has been filled with national events, as well as welcoming children in Years 1-6 back to school.

Tuesdays assemblies were led by Ms Teagle, welcoming our children back, reminding our school team of our ethos and vision: being part of something, were everyone is welcome, where learning is fuelled by creativity and where great things happen. We also touched on Boris Johnson’s visit to Balmoral to resign his post of Prime Minister, and for then the Queen to formally request Liz Truss to form a Government as the new Prime Minister.

On Wednesday Mrs Beckett read the story ‘The Bumblebear’ by Nadia Shireen to KS1. They talked about coming back to school and made a list of how we are feeling about it and how the Bumblebear was feeling. We also discussed how all our feelings are valid and to talk to someone (teacher/adult, parent) if  their worried/scared feelings don’t get better.

In Thursdays assemblies, Mr Wake and Mr Rutterford introduced PALs this term. They will leading the team of PALS (Pupils As Leaders) until February and spoke about leadership, the positive power of responsibility and the impact leaders can have at TMS. Children are invite to put themselves forward, by preparing a speech to put forward their skills of leadership and the impact that they could make if given the chance to be voted in. Children are then invited to take place in secret ballot. The first meeting will take place on 22nd September and will meet fortnightly.

With the sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth the previous night it would only be right to talk about the immense role the Queen has had for the last 70 years in our Friday’s assemblies. From our learning about the Jubilee last term, we remembered the achievements and changes in society in the last 70 years, and noticing the range of emotions which the nation will be feeling over the coming days.

And to finish with a quote from the 14-year-old Princess Elizabeth, from her broadcast to the children of the Commonwealth in October 1940: “And when peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place”
