Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Assemblies – week beginning 7.2.22

11th February 2022 in Assemblies

On Monday, Ms Teagle found an incredible story about polar bears taking over a remote island of the coast of Russia. This led our thinking down a number of curiosity threads – as always!!!

We were intrigued by where Wrangler Island was. To find it accurately, we had to look at the map of the world a different way – one with the Pacific Ocean in the centre not Europe – this way we could see how close Alaska (one of our STAR teams!) and Russia actually are! We discussed the characteristics of polar bears and imagined them taking over our houses and sleeping in our beds – how territorial could they have been to the houses they had taken over! And then, 10 facts about Polar bears – see how many you can remember!

On Thursday’s KS2 assembly, Ms Teagle shared a report from Mr Hodson when he visited the school last week. Mr Hodson is an Ofsted inspector who works with schools in TPAT. He was amazed at how articulate and polite our children are, able to focus in on talking about learning and their awareness of their learning journeys were incredible! He looked specifically at art and science and praised the work that Mrs Vale, Miss Wallis and Miss Bryant had done in raising standards in these areas.

In EYFS and KS1 Mrs Brown focused on mental health week and shared this poster.

We finished off on Friday with our STAR assembly, listening to this brilliant version of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata by Alicia Keys.
