Assemblies – weeks commencing 27th February and 6th March

20th March 2023 in Assembly, Whole School
Our assemblies included a visit from a local artist and our usual STAR assemblies, where our children get a chance to shine. Other assemblies included ones about Cornish legends and geography:

Ms Teagle started the week in preparation for St Piran’s Day.  She talked about her favourite Cornish Legend of Giant Bolster and how he terrorized the village was told to the school and how the bravery and courage of young Agnes ended in triumph! It is up to the children to make up their minds how true this legend is … and whether the line trawling down the cliff at Chapel Porth, is actually that of Giant Bolster’s blood …

In our Geography assembly, we continued our journey through the continents by looking at North America. We looked closely at where North America is on a map, discussing hemispheres and using directional language. Then we spent some time examining the human and physical features of North America – Mr Bagley, Mrs Brown and Mrs Webb shared their holiday photos so we could look at all the different features. Next week – South America!

Continuing the Cornish Legend theme, Ms Teagle’s assembly was the legend of Dembras. Again, the tale of a brute of a giant terrorizing the village, but this time, young Tom saving the village! Again, true or not? You only need to go to Golowan on midsummer’s night and you will see the celebrations happening in memory of this historic event …
