Christmas @ TMS 2020!

3rd December 2020 in Our Community

As I am sure you are aware, our staff LOVE Christmas time! We have been planning ahead to ensure that our children make the most of this festive time, whilst adhering to the covid restrictions. We will not be having any events which invite the community into school; however, this doesn’t stop us from reaching out! Here is a summary of the Christmas events we have planned so far!

Christmas starts – the big ‘TMS Turn On’ – Monday 30th November

On Monday 30th November, Rhyan in Year 6 (the eldest) and Ella in EYFS (the youngest) will be turning on our Christmas Lights, as our annual Christmas tradition dictates! It will be zoomed across the whole school and all efforts will be made to make it a magical experience!

Although we are not able to bring in decorations from home, we have decorations from previous years, which will bring the staff many happy memories as it is decorated.

‘Wear anything Christmassy Day’ (Save the Children) – 11th December

We will be supporting Save the Children on 11th December by wearing anything Christmassy. There are many parents who want to pass on previous Christmas jumpers – so please make use of platforms such as the year group Facebook pages to swap jumpers! As with everything this Christmas, we recognise financially things may be more challenging than usual. If you can donate to Save the Children, please do – there are many charities who would benefit – if not, then the children will have a great day anyway!

Christmas Foodbank – 30th November – 11th December

In support of our local food bank, some parents have asked whether we can use the school as a collection point. Our staff are more than willing to deliver any food packages to the food bank. Please drop anything appropriate into school by 11th December so we have time to quarantine, before handing it over. As you are aware, many of our families use this resource and it is an excellent way to practically support our community.

TMS to LAPLAND CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE! (PTFA & St.Petrocs) –

11th-13th December

Can we cover the 2,101 miles / 3,381 km distance to travel from Threemilestone School to Lapland? During the weekend of 11th to 13th December, we are inviting all our families to cover a part of this distance together by walking, running, biking or scooting. By inviting our friends and families, we can clock up as many miles/kms as possible.

To raise money, set yourself your own challenge in your own families: £1 per km for every family member? £5 per mile for your whole family? The options are endless! There is also a small prize for the best dressed family and the family who have covered the most distance. The money can be donated through a JUSTGIVING page which will be set up and the money raised will be split between the PTFA and St.Petrocs.

Christmas Cards &  Gifts

Each class is going to have their own post box this year and only open the post box on the 7th, 14th and 18th December, with last posting being on the 16th. If you would like to give a Christmas card to children who are in different classes, please give the cards to the class teacher, and they will deliver them after school into the right postbox. Please be aware that we are unable to give out lists of names of the children in a class.

As staff, we never expect any gifts, but I do acknowledge that some families choose to show their appreciation to the adults who work with their children by buying something small. Any gifts which come in, will need to be quarantined for 24 hours before opening. Please do not feel obligated to do this – nothing is expected.

Christmas Art

This year, we are changing our focus from music to art! Every year group has made contact with someone in our community and we will be sharing our TMS Christmas Spirit with people who may be away from their family and friends this year. If you know of any organisation who would benefit from this, please do let your class teacher know.

EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 Nativities

These 3 year groups will be going ahead as usual with their Christmas Nativities. they will be learning words to songs and as many children as want to, will have something to say. We are planning to film these over the 9th, 10th and 11th December and then after a SMALL AMOUNT of editing, we will be emailing the Nativities home. They will not be on the website, but if you have concerns about your child being filmed, please do talk to your class teacher.

Christmas Dinners – 15th and 16th December

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without our amazing Christmas Dinner! EYFS and KS1 will be having theirs in the hall on Wednesday 16th December. KS2 will be having theirs on Tuesday 15th December. As always when we use the hall for our school dinners, all the Covid restrictions are in place, with the different bubbles sitting the recommended distance apart from each other, using different doors, lots of cleaning in between and of course, staff waiting on the children wearing gloves!

Christmas Parties – 15th and 16th December

The staff are VERY excited about our Christmas party day! Games are being planned to take place in the classrooms and outside and lots of fun will be had! Children are able to wear non uniform / party clothes on this day. EYFS and KS1 will be having theirs on Tuesday 15th December and KS2 on Wednesday 16th December.  We will let you know guidance on bringing in food when we know!

END OF TERM – 18th December

We break up at 1.15pm on Friday 18th December. This both enables us to have a deep clean at the end of term, but also responding to parental conversations about it being more inline with Richard Lander School so that as a family, you are able to do something special.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
