Widemouth Bay and St Ives class had a conversation over ‘Zoom’ about what we have been doing in our ‘Culture of the Heart sessions’. The children really enjoyed mixing with another year group, despite not being able to do it in person. It gave them the opportunity to share their thoughts on kindness and class values, which helped create a discussion around a positive learning culture. Both classes expressed their excitement about the prospect of being able to have a catch up Zoom in the future – hopefully in person!
Budock and Kynance were very excited to share their culture of the heart learning with each other. Children from both classes shared their learning by confidently talking over zoom while others showed theirs over the camera. Both classes have thought of a word list for how they would like their classroom to be. During lesson 1 of culture of the heart, each child chose a word to share with the class. After this for lesson 2, the children wrote a special quality about every person in the class. These have been laminated for the children to keep for the year. We are hoping that both classes will be able to meet in person after Christmas for more culture of the heart learning.
Bedruthan class and Rinsey Cove class zoomed today. Some children from Rinsey class told us about the words they selected from ‘Words and your heart’, they showed us the wonderful bookmarks they had made for the children in their class, writing words on the individual bookmarks to describe each child. They also showed us their pebbles they have creatively decorated to inspire the use of the words in class. Bedruthan class told Rinsey all about being kind and having ‘gentle’ hands and then we showed them our peer massage. Both classes took part and really enjoyed it. It was so calming and really relaxing
In Year 1, we have focussed on 2 characteristic words, kind and helpful. We have thought about what these words look like in class, on the playground and at home. To celebrate times where we have been kind or helpful, we answered the register by sharing with the class an act we have done that showed kindness or helpfulness. We enjoyed listening to what our friends have been up to, but were also very keen to point out where our friends have been kind or helpful towards us. Good job Year 1!
