Where learning is fuelled by creativity

This week we have been really busy working as a team to produce art on canvas in the style of Cornish artist John Dyer. First we practised using oil pastels, wax crayons and paint to experiment with making marks, and then we painted the background and drew pictures to add to the canvas. We are very proud of the finished products and excited that our canvases will be exhibited along with those of the other children in the school!

In phonics we have learnt our first trigraph ~ ‘igh’, as well as the ‘long oo’ sound, and we have lots of new tricky words in our sound pouches! In maths we are continuing to develop our understanding of combining numbers as well as learning the names of 3D shapes ~ cube, cuboid, sphere, cone, cylinder and pyramid (square based).

We loved dressing up on World Book Day and learning about St Piran. We were very excited to see our writing in print in the whole school book which has been published, called Kernow Bys Vyken ~ we even got to share our entries with some of the Year 6 children and Mr Newsome!

We ended the week with ‘The Big Switch Off’ ~ it was really impressive to see how much the children understood the reliance on electricity! They had lots of ideas of how to save energy at school and at home…see if your children can tell you about them.
