Year 5 have had a brilliant day today thinking about our mental health and ways we can protect it. Our day began with us understanding what Hello Yellow day is all about – knowing what mental health really is and it’s link to our physical health. We also spent some time understanding what depression and anxiety are – an amazing quote from one of our children “depression is like a dark cloud following you.”
After break, all of Year 5 thought about what we do to improve our own mental health – we had ideas such as spending time with pets, playing sport, talking with friends or trusted adults, reading a book, drawing and colouring. Once we had collected our ideas, we put them into our own acrostic poems. Have a look at some of our examples.
In the afternoon, we started our journey to become Mental Health Champions. All of the children in Year 5 and 6 will be taking part in a series of lessons over the next few weeks which will give them the title of a Mental Health Champion – they will be able to offer support and guidance to anyone in our school who might be struggling! What a busy day!
