17th January 2024 in Creative Team

The composer of the month for January is Camille Saint-Saens :  a French composer during the Romantic Era of Music.  The Romantic Era was a time when composers used music as an expression of intense feelings.

He was born 1835, and unfortunately his father died when he was very young.  He was another child prodigy – before he was 3 years old he displayed perfect pitch and could pick out tunes on the piano. He gave his first piano recital age 11.

He loved to learn and studied music as well as many other subjects – French, Latin, Maths. He continued to play (piano and organ) composer and perform until old age.  He died age 86.

His works include Carnival of the Animals, Danse Macabre (Jonathan Creek theme music!), Symphony No 3 (used in Babe soundtrack).
