Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Music @ TMS

Here is a short film for a song called  ‘I love the flowers’.  It’s a song that can be sung as a round*.  You can also sing with one part singing the repeated ‘boom-de-ah-ra’ (ostinato) pattern and the others singing the tune.  It is another of those songs that gets into your head and stays for a long time! There are actions shown by the hands in the pictures – or you can make up your own.

It’s also a good tune to use to make up your own song about things that you love or like – see the end of the film for ideas.  Make up your own version – what do you love?  Cheesy chips / chocolate cake / my family / sandy beaches / rainbows / Liverpool FC . . .

Let us know how you get on!

* What is a round?  A round (or a simple canon) in music is a song which can be sung by two or more groups of people. One group starts off and the next group start to sing the same song a bit later. It should sound nice together. When a group gets to the end of the song they start again. They can go round and round, singing it several times. Examples of songs that are rounds?  London’s burning, Frere Jacques, Christmas is coming (which we sang at Christmas)  . . . you may know some more.

‘Sing Your Own Kind of Music’ Challenge – we need you!

We’re singing ‘Make your own kind of Music’ in Sing It group and have been listening to both the original 1960’s hit and Paloma Faith’s version that she recently made.  Listen here

We would like photos and short films (10 second maximum length) of you making music at home. For example – you singing in the garden, in the kitchen, playing air guitar, piano, the spoons, violin, drums, singing with your younger brother, singing with you dog. . . .  You can sing to this song – or any song that you like singing.  Please send in photos or very short film clips (they need to be short – just a snippet) and send by email FAO Mrs Browning / Music Challenge  to:  year2homelearning@threemilestone.cornwall.sch.uk        If you are happy to, we can then put them altogether on next week’s music blog.

Please include your name and class in the email.

The photos and film clips will then be used in a short fun film which we’ll share at school showing all of you making your own kind of music.

The lyrics say:

‘Make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
make your own kind of music
even if nobody else sings along’

I look forward to seeing what you’re up to and will share pictures as we go along.  If you’d like to join in please email in FAO Mrs Browning / Music Challenge to:  year2homelearning@threemilestone.cornwall.sch.uk  by the Wednesday 6th May

Finally – a clip to inspire from Opera de Paris.  There are some brilliant, inspirational ways that musicians and artists around the world are getting together to share what they do best.  I loved this and hope you do too.  Dancing shoes at the ready!

Keep Singing!

Mrs Browning
