This week we’re looking at 4 beat rhythms – clapping each rhythm we read in time to the beat of the music we hear. Watch this film and clap / tap – play along with anything you have at home – sounding out the rhythm you see on the cards.
Many of your favourite songs that you listen to at home will also have 4 beats to a bar in them – see if you can clap along.
You could make up some cards of your own – then using maths, make up your own 4 beat phrases. Each phrase (or bar) needs to add up to 4. So four crotchets would be 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4 , two minims would be 2 + 2 = 4 and so on. Remember quavers are the quick notes with two quavers making up one beat.

Spot the odd one out . . .
On the picture below there is one phrase that adds up to 5 beats – not four. Can you see which one it is?

Keep tapping, clapping and singing along to your favourite songs at home.
