Levan brought us a composer of the month themed joke:
‘What is Beethoven’s favourite fruit?’
‘Ba-na-na-na!’ (sung to the tune of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony)
In all classes we were looking at dynamics – so how loud or soft we play the music. We had some great demonstrations on drum kits and guitars at home.
Attached are compositions from Blythe, Jake and Ethan All of them have been exploring different sounds that they can use at home to make animal sounds and then writing them down, creating their own animal themed compositions. Brilliant – thank you for sharing!
KS1 – USING DYNAMICS
We looked at dynamics this week; how loud and quiet sounds are.
Using your sounds that you’ve found at home add in instruments to the song I hear thunder (words below) .
Which sound make the loudest sound? Which part of the song do you think it the loudest? Can you make a sound that goes from soft to loud? This is called ‘Crescendo’

Beethoven would take daily walks in the countryside and used the inspiration of nature to compose his 6th Symphony, called ‘The Pastoral Symphony’. The 4th Movement is called ‘Thunder, Storm’ and is used in Disney’s fantasia film. Listen here to hear the sounds of the storm in the music. Beethoven Pastoral Symphony, 4th Movement – Storm

Using the sheet attached have a go at composing your own weather piece of music. Choose 4 types of weather then using your sounds that you’ve found at home add in a dynamic for each sound – will they be loud or soft?

KS2 – OUR ENVIRONMENT RAP
Well done on your help with our TMS ‘Making a difference’ rap. When we are back in school we can bring this together splitting the group to play either a backing rhythm or say the lyrics.
HANS ZIMMER – OUR PLANET EARTH
Another piece of music inspired by looking after our Planet is Hans Zimmer’s piece ‘Earth’ He also composed the music for the David Attenborough series Planet Earth II. He wrote the ‘Earth’ as a personal celebration of the planet that we live on.
Hans Zimmer is a living German composer. He has composed more than 150 film scores and has bee nominated for 10 Oscars. He has written the music for over 150 films including The Lion King, Madagascar, The Simpsons Movie, Kung Fu Panda and TV series like Blue Planet II. He has helped shape the sound of today’s film, tv and games music. He is self taught. He loves using technology, synthesizers, samplers and computers as well as the orchestra.
