It may have only been a 4 day week, but what a lot has been going on! Mr Hick and Mr Lara have continued their work across the school on maths – focusing on the sequencing and progression of mathematics, by dropping into lessons, talking to children and looking at their learning. It has been so exciting, and listening the children talk about their understanding has been so impressive. Mr Lara and Miss Wallis have also led a workshop in early maths – thank you all for attending, we hope you found it useful!
We have also come to the point in the year when we are planning for next year. We know that the last two years have been unsettled due to the pandemic and so we feel it is important to let you know who next year’s teachers will be earlier on than usual. We will have our transition day on 30th June, when our year 6s will go to Richard Lander and everyone else will spend the day in their new classes. They will be collected from their new classes so there is time for you to introduce yourself to the new teacher! We have also planned for additional opportunities for teachers to spend time with their new classes.
We are thrilled to say that through really careful budgeting decisions with the governors, we are able to split the year 6 classes for 2021/2022 into 3 classes of 21. This provision is something that we have to review annually and unfortunately not something that we will be able to guarantee in future years.

If your child has additional needs, Mrs Ewart is currently working on a programme of transition. Watch this space!
As always, if there are any questions or worries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Uniform
Our children are looking really smart in school at the moment: ties are on, shoes are black and there are no hoodies! It makes such a difference!
This is a reminder, although we are in May, it is still rather chilly. Please can children remember to wear jumpers (named!) as in PE lessons and playtimes, they still need them outside. It won’t be long before we are requesting suncream!
EYFS Face to Face
For Blisland and Bedruthan classes, it has been a challenging year – due to covid, a slightly disjointed year. We have worked really hard with Mrs Bolt to ensure that Bedruthan Class has had stability in a year that sadly, Mrs Beckett could not predict, and with Mrs Brown overseeing the year group, consistency and high standards have been maintained. Through offering meetings (mostly phonecalls) conversations with Ms Brown and Mrs Bolt, we have managed to meet with most parents, but we feel now, there is an opportunity in the next 2 weeks, for all EYFS children to meet with Mrs Brown or Mrs Bolt to talk about progress and how they are doing with the learning and in other social situations.
Mrs Bolt and Mrs Brown will have a signing up sheet when you drop off and pick up early next week, and the intention is that they will see ALL parents / carers within the next 2 weeks. They are really flexible with times – we can adapt to suit you.
Covid reminder
In school, we are constantly being reminded about ‘hands, face, space’ to support the drive to keep us safe. Please can we remind you to wear face masks on the school premises. As well as the obvious protection against covid, wearing masks around school also supports others in managing our different levels of anxieties regarding covid.

Parking
Last week, we politely reminded all our families to be considerate to our school community when parking around the school. The residents of Victoria Road, are requesting in particular, to think of the children’s safety, as well as being considerate to them: this is a private road. We have been asked to pass this on to our parents.
‘Dear Parents.
You may not be aware but the residents of the local roads around the school spent a lot of time and effort to make sure you could park during school drop off/pick up times when the consultation happened regarding parking.
However, we strongly supported the double yellow lines being placed on ALL of the corners – these are there for your children’s/pram users and wheelchair users safety to see across the junctions – most are simply not tall enough to see over parked cars when crossing.
Please do not park on them – it is extremely dangerous and creates massive blind spots and is also against the current road traffic regulations, whilst we appreciate it might mean walking an extra 15mtrs please keep our junctions clear. Thank you.’
Lifewise
As many of you are aware, we follow the ‘Lifewise’ scheme for RSHE. This is a fantastic programme, covering many aspects of ‘real life’ – relationships, friendships, financial support, alcohol and drugs education, keeping safe … and much much more.
The ‘Lifewise’ team have added a feature on the programme of information for families. It is so important for the subjects discussed in school, to further the discussions at home. At the end of each newsletter will be the link to the area covered in the weekly session. We hope you will find them useful.
