Where learning is fuelled by creativity

17th February 2022 in Newsletters

What an amazing half term and a well deserved week off for all our children! They have been brilliant in the last 7 weeks, yet again shining through the national and school challenges which we have been faced with.

A massive thank you not only to our children, but to our families, our staff and our governors which together have shown an incredible team spirit of working together to make the best possible experiences for our children.

I hope you all have a restful, albeit blustery, break and we are ready to embrace the lighter evenings, the brighter weather and more STAR learning next term!

Ms Teagle

It has been brought to our attention that a parent / carer has been smoking on school site during drop off this morning.

This is a reminder that our TMS School site is STRICTLY a NON SMOKING SITE.

FACE TO FACE AND IEP REVIEW MEETINGS

All IEP review meetings for children on the Record of Need should have happened before half term. If for any reason this hasn’t happened, please contact the teacher and make this important appointment to celebrate progress and discuss next targets.

All Face to Face meetings should have been booked in by now as well. If you have not yet booked, please contact the school office or class teacher.

CLUBS

All clubs run by Miss Andrew finish today. A google form will be emailed out the first week back after half term for you to submit which of Miss Andrew’s clubs your child would like to do next term. Confirmation slips will be sent out at the end of that week. All children currently attending Science Club will finish today and confirmation slips will be sent out after half term to the children on the waiting list who will be starting Science Club on Thursday 10th March.

There will be no clubs on the week beginning 28th February due to staff leading Face to face meetings.

PTFA EVENTS!

For all these events, please feel free to join us -we are a friendly bunch who are keen to expand to support the school community!

  • PTFA BINGO! We are really looking forward to our first BINGO night, with our host … MISS MOYLE!!! The PALS have been busy preparing advertising posters and we really do hope you can join us – strengthening the school community as well as raising funds for our school. We are currently raising money so that our children can have a ‘day out’ at the beach in the summer paid for by the PTFA so that the children can enjoy time together after these challenging few years. Bingo tickets are being sold from the school office.
  • The DISCO is back .. and this time with our very own resident DJ … Mr Thomas!!! Keep the date free – 6th April!
  • 8th April – PTFA Egg hunt – more about this later!

TMS SPORT and WELLBEING HALL

Lots of you will be aware of the conversations happening between the school and the council over the last 4 years. Our current school hall, as you know, is not fit for purpose: delivering the full PE curriculum is an impossibility and meeting as a whole school, which is so incredibly important to a school, is a logistical nightmare! The hall was built for a school of less than 200 children and with the school expanded to now 420, the buildings have extended, but the hall, situated in the middle of the building has remained the same (in fact … decreased in size!).

The council has allocated £888,000 towards the building of a new sports hall, which is incredibly exciting and shows how much commitment there is from the community of TMS and also the councils and county officers. We have worked with PBWC on a design which encapsulates more than just a sports hall. It includes a wellbeing workspace, as well as building an outdoor learning area to support our curriculum, as well as extra curricular activities.

We also intend use by the community in the evenings, both the hall and the workspace, for sports hiring, or local groups meetings to strengthen links in the community.

The planning has now been submitted and through consultation with parents and the local community we know how much support there is for this provision to support the children in the village.  We invite you to share you support on the planning portal:

Thank you to all the members of the community who have supported us thus far on this journey: Dulcie Tudor, Kenwyn Parish Council, TMS Community Centre, Rev’d Jeremy and All Saints Church, Stephen Horscroft and many more.
