Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Newsletter 22.07.22

22nd July 2022 in Newsletters

We’ve made it! What a year! The first full year after the pandemic and our children have once again shone with their enthusiasm for learning, kindness and friendships. We wish our TMS leavers every success and happiness in their new schools – they are incredibly special and talented individuals  and every one of them has had a massive impact on our TMS team. As a staff team, we have learnt so much from them, and we will miss them!

We also say goodbye to some members of staff who have played a big part in our team. As you are already aware, Mr Summerfield is undertaking a secondment to be a deputy head in Pendeen (he will be back!); Mr Lara is now joining a team to teach teachers how to teach; Miss Hilbery is leaving to spend more time with her family, Mrs Henley, Mrs Rosevear and Miss Williams are leaving to pursue teaching careers, Mrs Winter is leaving to join a team in a special school and Mr Payne is working for a charity to support young families to set up home. We wish them every success for the future and thank them massively for all their hard work and commitment to TMS over their time spent with us.

We hope you have a wonderful summer – rest, relax and have fun 🙂

Ms Teagle

TMS PARISH COUNCIL PARK

Kenwyn Parish Council is looking for members of the public to form a new working group “Friends of Threemilestone Play Park” (at Polstain Road). We hope this group will get involved with carrying out smaller tasks around the park, with councillors, such as planting trees, weeding etc, reporting issues and much more. We also hope that this group will get involved with constructive suggestions and gather local residents ideas on what we may be able to do to improve the park in the future.

If you would like to join in or would like any more details, you can contact one of your local councillors on the email addresses below:

PTFA ASDA GREEN TOKENS

The PTFA have been nominated to be part of the Asda Foundation Green Token Giving online vote through the local Asda store Falmouth and this  is now live. Supporters can vote for the PTFA by visiting www.asda.com/green-tokens and selecting Falmouth from the drop-down box. You will be able to vote once every seven days, so please return and revote in the following weeks. Voting will close at midnight on Friday 30th September 2022.

RESIDENTIALS 22-23

Next year we have really exciting residentials planned – the letters will come out on our first week back!

Y2 – Sleeping with Sharks (1 overnight stay)

Y3 – Newquay watersports and beach activities (1 overnight stay)

Y4 – Bristol – (2 overnight stay)

Y5 – Dorset Outdoor Adventure (2 overnight stay)

Y6 – London (2 overnight stay)

We know that with the pandemic and the changes in Cornwall Outdoors, this has made us look elsewhere for residentials. Due to the Year 5 Porthpean residential being cancelled, this is why the Bristol visit in Y5 was quickly put into place – there was nowhere to do outdoor activities at such short notice: this is why the current Y5 will have 2 consecutive ‘city breaks.’ We know that in this circumstance some children may feel they have missed out on outdoor adventures, but unfortunately, the pandemic has meant that we have had to make short term changes.

We hope that as many children as possible come to these residentials – the dates are on the website.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

“You will be aware that since December 2020 schools have been funded by the Local Authority to provide food vouchers for children eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals over school holiday periods. These vouchers have been funded through various government grants to Local Authorities, including the Covid Local Support Grant and the Household Support Fund.

At the recent budget the Government announced an extension to the Household Support Fund to support households in the most need, particularly those including children and pensioners, who would otherwise struggle with energy, food and water bills. The Council will continue to use the Fund to support low-income families eligible for Free School Meals. However, the method for delivering this support is changing and will no longer be provided through supermarket food vouchers linked to school holiday periods. Instead, families eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals will be eligible to receive a cash payment from the Fund to give them greater flexibility to use the support towards their household living costs.

The one-off cash payments will be issued to families to cover the Household Support Fund period from 1 April to 30 September 2022. The payments will not be linked to school holidays and we do not expect to issue payments until late June at the earliest. Further communication and guidance on accessing this support will be made available to schools and families in the coming weeks.

Schools will not be funded to provide Free School Meals vouchers for the May half-term, nor the Summer holiday. We will shortly be issuing a press release and other public communications to ensure families are aware of this change. However, you may also wish to communicate directly with your Free School Meal families.”

As you know, all children in years EYFS, Years 1 and 2 are entitled to Free School Meals. However if you are eligible for Pupil Premium funding, this brings money into the school so that we are able to put in targeted support across the school where needed. If you are in EYFS, Years 1 and 2 and you think you may be eligible CLICK HERE to find out more. This reminder is especially for families of children in year 2, as in September, your child will not be receiving universal Free Schools Meals, so it may be worth checking out to see whether you are eligible. As the cost of living increases and more families are finding the financial burden incredibly challenging, this may be something which could help your family, just a little bit.

HELP WITH SPORTING FIXTURES 22-23

We need your help for next year! As many of you are already aware, it has become increasingly challenging to transport children to and from sporting fixtures, of which we try to attend as many as possible! In keeping with safeguarding guidance, as well as ensuring we are covered with suitable insurance, it has meant that this year, we have ended up travelling ‘in style’, either by taxi, or bus, which although is much fun, inevitably has an expense to the school. Next year we are asking parents and carers to help!

If your child is in KS2 and you think that at some point in the next year, you may be able to offer transport IF your child is selected to represent the school, please come into the office and see Miss Hawken, where we are able to pay for you to get a DBS check done. We cannot accept DBS checks from other settings.

Having this DBS check done will not guarantee your child’s place in the team … and not having it done will not affect the choices either!

For festivals and competitions with large numbers of children attending, and those in KS1, we will continue to hire a bus. We will always walk if events are held at RLS or Truro College.
