Where learning is fuelled by creativity

What a fantastic end to our half term with our TMS Jubilee celebrations bringing the whole school together. It was a great occasion kicking off with our concert, hearing the rock bands, recorder groups and string group, along with persuasive speeches and Jubilee learning. The street party was brilliant with everyone helping out and sharing company, food and laughter – a great start to the national Jubilee celebrations.

The Year 6 have also returned after a simply incredible 3 days in London. Such excitement after a rubbish few years without a residential, the children shone in maturity, responsibility and did everything they could to work together so that everyone enjoyed their experience. As always, so much work goes into a residential behind the scenes, so a massive thank you to all adults involved, especially Miss Hawken – it is no mean feat to organise a residential, as I am sure you can imagine. Delaware and Bristol to go this year … I can’t wait!

We are also on a mission to take the next step in making our school community less dependent on paper – the environmental and financial cost is startling and needs to be addressed, with every one of us playing their part. All our school letters will be now emailed out via ParentPay, and any permission forms needed will be via Google Forms – this includes all sporting fixtures. There may be some hiccups along the way, as there always is when changing habits, so let’s see how it all goes! Thank you in advance for your patience!

TMS is currently recruiting teaching assistants. If you are interested, or know of anyone who would be brilliant, please find our application form on the website. No experience is necessary, but a genuine belief in children that everyone can succeed, alongside a love of learning are essential!

PTFA Summer Fayre – 1st July

Arrangements are starting to take place for our Summer Fayre on 1st July. Families are able to join the fun from 1:45pm and it will finish at around 4:30pm. Between 2pm-3pm there will be a programme of music and dances performances on the field. Year 6s will be organising some stalls, and there will be entertainment and others stalls being organised by the PTFA. If you feel you are able to help out (e.g. BBQing, tombola), or have something or know a connection which would be helpful for the afternoon, please let the PTFA or the school office know. If parents are unable to come in the afternoon, then the children will be staying with the adults and watching the music and dance performance. They will be able to go to the Y6 stalls if they bring in money. More information about the afternoon to follow!

We are looking forward to starting our half term break with the PTFA Bingo night, raising money so that the children at TMS can enhance their time with us. We hope you all have a wonderful break, taking part in community events to celebrate this special, historic weekend. Remember we have a day off on Monday 6th (thank you Her Majesty!)  – see you on Tuesday 7th!

Truro Community Library – Jubilee!

*We would love to display some designs of book covers on a royal theme by children at local schools in the Junior Library. The finished designs will be displayed in the Junior Library.

*We also have a great event with John Brolly from The Minack Theatre. John is a fantastic storyteller. He’ll be weaving some tales on the morning of Saturday 4th June from 10.30am in the Community Garden at Truro Library. Tickets are free but we have to limit numbers so tickets can be collected from The Enquiry Desk at the library in advance. The poster is attached.

ATTENDING SPORTING FIXTURES 22-23

As many of you are already aware, it has become increasingly challenging to transport children to and from sporting fixtures, of which we try to attend as many as possible! In keeping with safeguarding guidance, as well as ensuring we are covered with suitable insurance, it has meant that this year, we have ended up travelling ‘in style’, either by taxi, or bus, which although is much fun, inevitably has an expense to the school.  We have done extensive research looking into different options which ensure that we are still able to take part in as many competitions and festivals as possible.

We have concluded that in the 2022-2023 academic year we will continue asking parents of those children selected to arrange transport amongst themselves, as we have done in previous years. For insurance purposes, we cannot organise who goes with who ourselves. The change for next year is that any parent/carer/grandparent taking another child in their car in school time MUST complete a Volunteer Driver Form (available from the office) a DBS check, and have Business Insurance to ensure that we are meeting all safeguarding requirements. Even if it means getting a DBS check for 40 parents, it is more cost effective than the constant hiring (or buying) of a minibus!

If your child is in KS2 and you think that at some point in the next year, you may be able to offer transport IF your child is selected to represent the school, please come into the office and see Miss Hawken, where we are able to pay for you to get a DBS check done. We cannot accept DBS checks from other settings.

Having this DBS check done will not guarantee your child’s place in the team … and not having it done will not affect the choices either!

For festivals and competitions with large numbers of children attending, and those in KS1, we will continue to hire a bus. We will always walk if events are held at RLS or Truro College.
