With Bank Holiday on the horizon, we are hoping that you will all be able to have an additional family day to enjoy being together and enjoying time outside. 

This week has been a busy week for everyone here at TMS! We have had a really informative visit from PC Andy Filkins talking to Years 5 and 6 about being safe online, in the rising incidents of online safeguarding difficulties in younger children. Year 5 have also been involved in a 2 days Leadership Programme, raising the profile of a healthy lifestyle and the impact that leadership has on self confidence, self awareness and mental health. This is a programme which we are hoping to role out as soon as the covid restrictions are relaxed. Samuel Pepys has had a ‘Zoom’ with Year 2, and Year 3 are busy investigating the Rainforest! Mr Hick and Mr Lara have also started their work investigating how maths is taught across the school – this is such an exciting piece of work, seeing different children learn and seeing the progression across the school. 

We have had a phonics workshop with Year 1, led by Mrs Murt and Miss Grubb as well as our first Welcome meeting with our new EYFS families. Mr Lara and Miss Wallis will be leading a maths  family workshop on Thursday evening for all KS1 parents/carers – the Zoom link is on the Website diary dates!

Covid reminder

In school, we are constantly being reminded about ‘hands, face, space’ to support the drive to keep us safe. Please can we remind you to wear face masks on the school premises. As well as the obvious protection against covid, wearing masks around school also supports others in managing our different levels of anxieties regarding covid.   

Parking

Last week, we politely reminded all our families to be considerate to our school community when parking around the school. The residents of Victoria Road, are requesting in particular, to think of the children’s safety, as well as being considerate to them: this is a private road.

Due to Bank Holiday Monday, there will be a change to the lunch menu next week. Meat Free Monday will now move to Tuesday 4th May, the choices will be either Vegetable Bolognese or Cheese & Tomato Calzone. Parent Pay menu may have different choices listed but please book as normal for Tuesday and your child will receive these choices NOT the ones listed on Parent Pay.

Lifewise

As many of you are aware, we follow the ‘Lifewise’ scheme for RSHE. This is a fantastic programme, covering many aspects of ‘real life’ – relationships, friendships, financial support, alcohol and drugs education, keeping safe … and much much more. 

The ‘Lifewise’ team have added a feature on the programme of information for families. It is so important for the subjects discussed in school, to further the discussions at home. Big Pedal – 19th – 30th April 2021 

Wow! What a great 2 weeks of biking, walking & scooting! So many of you have been actively travelling to school over this time and doing our bit to cut down our carbon footprint. In school, we have got our new EYFS bike shed up and running, and already so many children have been making the most of it. Alongside this, some children in year 5 have been helping check and fix up the bikes that needed a little TLC. Currently (with today’s results still to be posted) we are sitting at 41st in the whole of England and 2nd in the whole of the South West – above all this, we have completed over 5200 active journeys!! 

To top off the last 2 weeks, today we have had Nick and Brian from Sustrans on the school grounds as part of our ‘Dr Bike Day’. A massive thank you to both of them! They have been busy all day, servicing 57 bikes, you have certainly kept them busy! The details of all their findings will be emailed to you direct over the coming days, once Sustrans have uploaded the details to the school. 

Sustrans would like to pass on their thanks to everyone who participated in the Big Pedal and for so many families bringing in their bikes and scooters. They would like us to pass on their apologies, that unfortunately they have not been able to service any of the scooters on this occasion.

We have been given a number of activity packs from Active Cornwall which are specifically for those children who are eligible for Free School Meals. If your child is eligible for Free School Meals and you would like one of these packs then please see your class teacher to collect one

Community LFD Testing 

From 1 March 2021, if you’re a member of a household, childcare bubble or support bubble of staff or a pupil you can get a twice-weekly test:

• through your employer if they offer testing to employees
• at a local test site
• by collecting a home test kit from a test site – The nearest facility to Threemilestone school is Truro Park and Ride East, Threemilestone. Open daily 1 – 8pm.
• by ordering a home test kit online
• Get a test through your employer: Your workplace may offer rapid lateral flow testing to you. Contact your employer to find out more
• Take a test at a rapid lateral flow test site – You can take a rapid lateral flow test at a local site. Testing at these sites is assisted, which means you will swab yourself under the supervision of a trained operator. You may need to book an appointment. • Collect test kits – You can collect 2 packs of home test kits at a local collection point. Each pack contains 7 tests. Anyone 18 or over can collect.
