The theme of Children’s Mental Health week this year has been ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’, and learning has been linked to the Inside Out movie characters. The children have enjoyed taking part in activities which have enabled them to have increased self-awareness – understanding their strengths, things they find difficult as well as their likes and dislikes and what makes them unique. The more we can understand about ourselves the more we are able to deal with life’s inevitable ups and downs.
This week Year 1 have had a great time thinking about the importance of our mental health. We have thought about the importance of how we are feeling, the thoughts we are having, how this affects the choices we make and how we behave. We know lots of different things we can do to help us feel happy like being outside, spending time with friends and families, calm breathing and relaxing music, and visiting a happy place. On Friday we loved wearing clothes that make us happy, and we drew pictures of ourselves to show how we are feeling.
For children’s mental health week, year 2 have been looking at different feelings, support networks and what the children are proud of. We started by watching the film ‘Inside out’ to show that it is okay to feel different emotions. The children then looked at support networks and thought about who is in their network. The children created hot air balloons with the names of their support network around the edge. This afternoon, the children thought about self esteem and created a ‘How I shine’ chart looking at things they are proud of and the skills and qualities they have. Year 2 also had a go at yoga this afternoon looking at how exercise can make us feel happy.
Year 2
In Year 5 today, we learned all about the importance of looking after our mental health! We discussed the different factors which contribute towards positive mental health and the various different types of ill mental health. The children then drew a self-portrait and wrote kind words on each other’s pages: making everybody feel GOOD!
