There’s been much excitement around school with the launch of our new iPads in Year 5 and 6 and the roll out of existing Chromebooks lower down the school. Our commitment to ensuring our children are equipped for a 21st century, technologically driven world, is ongoing. Ensuring our children have the knowledge and understanding to be safe digital citizens is also a key priority for us.
With this in mind, we have reviewed TMS Online Safety Policy to ensure that it is up to date with current legislation and technology. Please do read it, as this drives much of our approach to keeping children safe online. Children in school will have also signed their own ‘Acceptable Use Policy’ (AUP).
In school, our safeguarding systems around technology have all been updated. Our filtering software (that prevents harmful material getting through) is robust and protects all devices, and our monitoring system (SENSO) has been embedded across all tech devices in school so we can routinely check what our children have been accessing online.
Within our practice, we are reviewing our teaching and learning processes in computing so that they include frequent learning opportunities about online safety. A monthly assembly will also be introduced, designed to keep children (and adults!) up to date with the ever changing digital world so that our strategies to keep safe online are always effective. Keep an eye on the newsletter too, as information about the latest trends, apps and games will be released so that you can support at home too. Previous monthly newsletters can be found here!
We’re always learning at TMS, and with you, we can make our online safety provision even better. We’ve sent out a short questionnaire and would really value parental input so that we can offer as much practical support as possible – CLICK HERE.
