It didn’t take long for the rivers to start flowing into school this week. We were blown away with the volume and quality of home learning. Children presented their reading rivers in assembly this week and were able to enthusiastically recall all the things they had read throughout February half term. This led to a wider discussion about the variety of reading and what we might read during a typical day…which was a lot!
Reading rivers allowed teaching staff a huge insight to what our children read at home and what they define as reading. This has made us think carefully about what we have available within our classrooms. Children have enjoyed recommending texts and different genres to each other. Some interesting themes amongst each classroom were that our children love to read in bed – with other top contenders including the sofa, the car and on the trampoline.
It is clear our children see reading, not as something they have to do, but as something they love to do. Thank you for supporting your child in their reading journey.
