Where learning is fuelled by creativity

TMS Staff Build Learning Power!

5th September 2018 in Featured, Inset Days

While all the children have been enjoying the last 2 days of the holidays, teachers, TAs and Governors have already started our learning journey of 2018-2019!

On Tuesday, we unpicked the concept of what makes successful people … and how schools can build on the skills needed to be successful in life. This caused much discussion … What actually is success? Is success important? Do we all value the same idea of success? You can imagine … lots of ideas!

Be part of something … we aim to build in our children, the passion, drive, determination, work ethic, confidence and self belief, to ensure that they have high aspirations and whatever goals they set themselves, they strive to be successful and achieve. We want our children to be gutsy and driven and not be afraid of giving things a go … and sometimes, it may go wrong!

We watched this Ted Talk and as a staff, we thought it was important that we share it with you:

SUCCESS

Other clips you may find useful : GRIT, the predictor of success

and our favourite from last year: Rita Pierson – Every kid deserves a champion.

On Wednesday, we invited Maryl, from Building Learning Power (BLP) to work with us for the day. This was exciting, intriguing .. and we worked hard! We know that the indictors of getting high marks in SATS, certainly isn’t a high IQ (which, incidentally, is not fixed!), and a top job is not linked to exam results. It is down to people’s attitudes, adaptability, resilience and desire to learn. Building Learning Power unpicks all the learning energies, including perseverance, questioning, revising, collaboration, and also focuses on curiosity and wonder, to give our children the language and skills to understand their own learning process. We will keep you updated on how we are getting on Building Learning Power at TMS!

Exciting times ahead!
