Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Y1 learning – Divali!

22nd November 2020 in Humanities Team, Year 1

In Year One we have been thinking about the Hindu festival of light, Diwali. Vikash had a lovely celebration at home with his family and then told us all about it at school. We have been learning about how Hindu families make Rangoli patterns using coloured rice and stencils, dress in special clothes and decorate their hands with henna, worship at the temple and eat together. We have enjoyed developing our fine motor skills making Rangoli patterns in lots of different ways- with glass pebbles, pieces of fabric, coloured sand and glitter, pens and coloured rice. The children have enjoyed using clay to make a candle holder or Diva lamp.
