The TMS girls’ football teams were welcomed to a tournament with Richard Lander School, hosted at Truro College, on a Friday that brought strong winds, heavy rain and even hail. None of it dampened the girls’ spirits.
TMS took two teams to the tournament, an A team and a B team and both got off to a brilliant start. From the first games you could see the enthusiasm, energy and real TMS spirit. The girls played some really good football and took on some tough opposition with confidence. Both teams were quickly on to winning ways, winning the majority of their group games and growing stronger with each match.
The B team were outstanding throughout the day and their hard work was rewarded as they went on to win their tournament. They scored some excellent goals, many of them well worked as a team and were very strong defensively. They made it difficult for other teams to create chances. A big shout out goes to the goalkeepers and defenders from both teams, who played a huge part in TMS’s success.
The A team also had a fantastic tournament, finishing second in their group and progressing to the semi finals. They faced the team who finished first in the opposing group in a tense and dramatic game. After going 1–0 down with only a few minutes to go, TMS showed real character to equalise and then score a winner in the dying seconds. That sent them through to the final.
The final was incredibly even, with both teams matched in ability and battling until the end. One moment of magic from the opposition, a strike into the roof of the net late on, proved to be the difference. TMS A team finished runners up after a brilliant performance.
It was a fantastic tournament and a great day for TMS girls’ football.
