Y6 visit King Edward’s mine

12th March 2025 in Humanities Team, Year 6
Our Year 6 pupils had an unforgettable experience at King Edward Mine Museum where they delved into Cornwall’s rich mining history, deepening their understanding of our current classroom learning topic of Cornwall and the Industrial Revolution.
The visit began with an exploration of the historic mining site, where children saw working mining equipment in action—bringing to life the methods once used by Cornish miners. They also took part in hands-on science experiments, applying Archimedes’ principle to calculate the density of different rocks, just as geologists do! A highlight for many was trying out the traditional panning technique to search for hidden metals, a skill that miners of the past relied upon.
The knowledgeable volunteers and staff at the museum made the visit truly special, sharing their expertise and making history come alive. A huge thank you to Cornish Metals, whose generous funding allowed us to enjoy this incredible learning experience.
