Over the past few weeks, our Year 6 children have been participating in a series of maths mentoring sessions at Richard Lander School, where they have been supported by a group of confident mathematicians in Year 10. The children worked through questions together with the Year 10 students, who would demonstrate how to solve complex maths problems, while subsequently our Year 6 children would watch, listen, and then have a go themselves. It has been incredible to see how well our Year 6 children have actively engaged in maths in the afternoons while engaging in conversation with older pupils. A massive thank you to those Year 10 students and to RLS for providing the space and time for this unique opportunity.
However, the mentoring doesn’t stop there! Back at school, some of our year 6 children have been participating in mentoring themselves in KS1, and the staff members who have been joined by them have been incredibly thankful for their support and engagement with the younger children. So, a massive well done to you all as well!
