Where learning is fuelled by creativity

Head’s update

21st May 2021 in Headteacher's Update

I don’t think we have given out as many golden stickers as we have done this week! The flow of children coming in to show off their learning, from EYFS to Year 6, has been constant – in every area of the curriculum. This shows the enormous pride the children feel about their learning and their achievements and how keen they are to share it and talk about it with others. Our STAR curriculum is something we are really proud of at TMS, giving our children rich and broad opportunities to inspire them to achieve great things. We have had Tim Webster, one of the county tennis coaches working with Y4, science investigations with a plant focus in Y3, incredible writing as a result of the ‘Great Fire of London’ stimulus in Y2,   in Y6 children have been creating their own websites based around sustainable eating,in Y5 they have been exploring how to classify animals and year 1 have been learning about parts of the plant and EYFS have now completed learning all of their sounds!

We have also been exploring ‘keeping safe’ in assemblies. CLICK HERE. Our aim is to ensure that children feel safe, and they know what to do when they don’t feel safe. By using ‘Bubbles to Protect’ we can talk about bubbles which can be squashed – with permission – but it is not OK for bubbles to be broken. Giving our children the confidence to verbalise this is incredibly important, whilst they learn about how to keep each other feeling safe.

Rev’d Jeremy is on sabbatical at the moment, but we are continuing his community links with Sam coming into school every Wednesday. With a history of youth work behind him, he is coming in working with Year 5s at the moment, but starting to get to know our children and our school so we are able to make him as welcome as we can – once covid is over!

Development for staff is always a strong feature at TMS: we are looking carefully at the curriculum for September. We are working with Stuart Tiffany (MrT Does History) on our history curriculum and working with Claire Fortey, our Director of Education, on our curriculum statements, ensuring that our STAR curriculum is what we intend: Stimulating, Team Based, Aspirational & Relevant. This is a really exciting piece of work!

There has been a rise in bugs and colds this week. Please continue to remember to wash hands and have plenty of rest. We have 5 school days left before half term .. and you don’t want to miss the STUNTSHOW!

Have a wonderful weekend – it’s another blustery one ahead!!
